2020 Summer Merit Fellowship Application

SUMMER MERIT FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION
The Summer Merit Fellowship award is divided into 2 types: Research Support OR Writing.  Students may use funds for research expenses, supplies and equipment, and travel to support data collection, analysis, or travel to performances necessary for your research or to participate in professional development workshops. The award can not be used for labor expenses (i.e. site excavation or set construction crews; paying a third-party to transcribe interviews, etc.). The award will not support tuition or conferences. Students who have completed data collection, research and research related travel may apply for a Summer Merit Fellowship writing award of up to $3000 for completion of their dissertation. Please do not request additional funds if applying for a $3000 writing award for dissertation completion.

The fellowship is intended for ADVANCED MFA or PhD students. Only PhD students who are ABD or MFA students beginning their final MFA year this fall semester are eligible to apply. Note that funds for this award may be limited and when necessary preference will be given to students in more advanced  stages of their research or writing. Students who have received two Summer Merit Fellowship Awards (either research or writing) in the past are ineligible for a third year.
